Kicking the Mic

Kicking the Mic fuses live tap dance, looping and a fully sound reactive LED dress to create a show that is breaking all the rules.

Kicking the Mic takes the percussive sounds of tap dance and turns them into samples of different instruments from flutes to cellos to tablas.

The dancer loops and layers these sounds, creating danced compositions. It is combined with an LED dress that lights up and changes colour to the live sounds. This creates a visual score to the music and dance, worn by the performer.

Kicking The Mic can be performed in non traditional venues: from nightclubs to conferences, as long as a wooden flooring is supplied. It is designed to be seen in low light levels (allowing the audience to fully enjoy the LED Dress).

The show can be performed in 10-20 minute sections, or as a 1 hour full length version.
